Built Technologies taps industry vet Russell as CTO

Construction-lending software provider Built Technologies has appointed Matthew Russell as its chief technology officer, the company has announced. Russell previously served as CTO of Digital Reasoning. He was named the 2017 “CTO of the Year” by the Nashville Technology Council.

Russell joins Built soon after a $21 million series-A capital raising with Index Ventures and Nyca Partners. The capital infusion will allow Built to deepen its team and, accelerate its growth and bolster its investments in data utilization.

Russell holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science from the US Air Force Academy and a master’s degree from the US Air Force Institute of Technology. While in the Air Force, he was a member of the Wings of Blue Parachute Team and has nearly 500 jumps as a parachuting instructor and sport skydiver. In 2016, Russell was inducted into Sen. Bill Frist’s Nashville Healthcare Council Fellowship at Vanderbilt University. He is an author who has published in several academic journals. He’s also written a book on the collection and analysis of social-media data, Mining the Social Web.

While at Digital Reasoning, Russell spearheaded the company’s technology, data science, and intellectual-property strategy. In his new role at Built, he will oversee the strategic development and technical operations of the company’s collaborative construction-lending platform.
